Saving for College
College tuitions and expenses can exceed $50,000 per year
depending on the school you go to. For a four year degree that is
$200,000! If you are really lucky your family has already
saved up cash.
- Start saving early. Middle school isn't too early to start
putting spare cash away. Programs like UPromise help you save
money as you spend it.
- Increase the amount of money you save every year. That will
make it harder to miss cash you get from your next pay raise.
- Don't stop! Even when money is tight keep saving! It is
harder to start back up than it is to keep going.
- Find scholarships! There is a lot of money out there for
college students, take advantage of it. And don't be discouraged
if you get turned down. Checkout local community organizations
like the Rotary, Freemasons, etc.
- Plan to get a job when you are in school if you're running
short. The government sets aside a good amount of cash to help
offset the cost of hiring students for student work programs.
